The first thing to keep in mind is that antique dealers are business people. But what makes them a little unique is that they are quite passionate about their job. They adore things of the past. And the better antique dealers are very knowledgeable about their craft, and most are quite eager to share what they know about collecting.

So if you can develop a good relationship with some of these smart dealers, then that can mean the difference between a good buy and a terrible one. Even if you don’t shop from them, dealers who have a working relationship with a collector usually are willing to advise and help their collector friends avoid bad investments.
